My Project

My name is Shivam Daftari and I am a Hindu Indian American at a primarily Caucasian Christian school. This project will explore biculturalism and assimilation at The Lovett School, a private Judeo-Christian school in Atlanta, GA. Many minorities at this school have had at some point or another have their feelings hurt whether by simple jokes to racial incidences. The main importance of the project is to try and find solutions to issues that affect minorities at Lovett.

 I have defined biculturalism as those people actively have a separate culture (i.e language, religion, etc.) at home versus the traditional Caucasian, Christian background at school. The final product will be a documentary which includes 10 interviews from various faculty and students from around the Upper, Middle, and Lower schools. Based on the views presented in the documentary, I will also write solutions for potential transitional problems and for cultural incidences at school that can help Lovett achieve its goals in diversity.
